Oh, how sad & how cold!!!!

It was a colossal mess for my beloved Sooners last night. If you watched the game, you know that we had plenty of chances in the first half to get up by a couple touchdowns but we kept whipping ourselves (ok..so Florida got a couple whips in, too...) As soon as we start playing looser and quit beating ourselves, we'll make these big games a lot easier on ourselves.
There was a sting in my heart last night, but it's passed now and that "life goes on" feeling has taken over.

The cold snap over the last couple weeks is lightening up. We got up near 0 degrees yesterday! Hoorahh!!! We were down to about -35 degrees and only up to -5 or so for the last 10 days. Most of the time it was around -10 to -20. If you've never been in air that cold, a couple things:

1) Clip those nose hairs....they get awful brittle.
2) You can't help but cough whenever you step outside...a swig of air that cold is a real "wake-me-up" to the lungs.
3) If you don't keep you're car plugged in, you have no promise. It may start, it may not. Good luck!
4) Find something fun to do inside or cabin fever sets in.
5) Look for hoar frost. Needle-like accumulations glaze everything so that the whole world is white (literally...cars, signs, trees, streets, everything).
6) Get used to not feeling parts of your body. They're still there...don't worry!
7) If you are going to be outside, for pity's sake, dress in layers! And don't be surprised if you look like a hiker on Mt. Everest...that includes ice caked onto your facial hair, jacket, hood, anything you breathe on.
8) Give yourself about 20-30 extra minutes to get out of the driveway in the morning. Not only do you have to scrap the outside of the car windows, but the inside too. And you might have to stop a few times to keep clearing them, as well. It builds character.
9) Run outside in shorts and a T-shirt from time to time. Reason...see above. And it's fun, too.
10) Finally, remember it could be worse. I talked to a lady north of Fairbanks who is still sitting at -55 to -70 degrees and has been there for the almost 2 weeks. (Go ahead and tack a wind chill onto that...Umm! -80 feels AWESOME!)

I shot a Get Out yesterday doing curling indoors. The temperature was 27 degrees in there and it felt really nice! How sad is that! About as sad as the Sooner loss in the Championship.

  1. My grief, too, has passed. It was a hard game to watch. Any time the Sooners lose, I don't take it well. I guess I'm just not used to them losing that often. Oh, well....
I can't really fathom how cold -30 degrees (or more) is. It kind of makes me appreciate the weird weather patterns here in Oklahoma (70 degrees one day, 35 the next, back up to 55...you know). Glad to hear you have adjusted to your new climate!
